The Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup, a unique spectacle of sport, style and entertainment,
returns to the grand and historic Turffontein racecourse on Saturday 1 December 2018.
Here’s what you can look forward to at this year’s event:
Electrifying racing
With no less than 12 races on the day, spectators on the course and around the world will have their eyes glued to the track. An initial entry of 56 horses from all corners of the country were received at first entry stage in September, and the final field will be announced at the barrier draw in November.
Spectacular live performance
There will be live music, DJs and performers entertaining the crowds all day on 1 December, and a highlight of the day is the half-time show that was launched last year. Taking place just before the main race, to announce it in the grandest way possible, this year’s extravaganza will feature an impressive line-up of drum majorettes, a massive field band, a choir and incredible dancers, headlined by none other than local electronic music phenomenon, GoodLuck.
Endless family entertainment
The Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup is one of the few horse races in the country that children can enjoy. From admiring the beautiful horses in the parade ring and on the track, to experiencing a mind-blowing carnival complete with a giant ferris wheel, jugglers, mimes, puppets, clowns, face painters, delicious food offerings and much, much more, the day promises endless wonder for the little ones. A dedicated new Family Zone near the carnival and the finish line means the little ones will be kept busy all day long, while the adults get to enjoy the amazing array of racing, music, performance and food.
Awesome Hospitality Offerings
Last year The Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup team was dubbed “The People’s Race”, and in keeping with this theme, key areas of the race were handed to the people of Gauteng to treat as their own. A carefully selected group of social pioneers, from party organisers to celebrities and charities, have been given a tent on the course, with freedom to choose their own entertainment, decor, dress codes and performers.
The successful formula means there are more hospitality options for visitors than ever before. From the stylish Voguish
Marquee to the Urban Alley street party, the sophisticated Hamptons Lounge, the royally elegant Chicks & Chatter tent and the popular Summer Garden, the Gbets Gauteng Summer Cup is packed with parties to suit all the people of Gauteng. Everyone is welcome at The People’s Race. Visitors are encouraged to bring the whole family and to don themselves in their most stylish Summer Chic outfits as they prepare for a day of sartorial style and unforgettable fun.
